I’m most excited about the growth and more diverse global audience of Nollywood - Omotola Jalade Ekeinde

Moët & Chandon is in full gear preparing to host an exquisite Film Gala on Sunday, February 2nd, 2020.

To this effect, the French winery and co-owner of the luxury goods company, LVMH Moët Hennessy and Louis Vuitton SE, brought together 11 Nollywood Icons and Stars to share their Experience.

Legendary Omotola was one of the Nollywood icon invited for the Moet Film Gala and here is what she is excited about Nollywood.

"What are you most excited about in Nollywood? I’m most excited about the growth and our more diverse global audience. When I started in this industry in 1993/1994, it wasn't something to be proud of.

We got scolded by our parents all the time because we said we are artists. You couldn't say,
I'm an actor, It was a taboo. Now, fast forward to 2020, young kids can actually say I’m an actor, I'm a singer, this is what I do for a living. I think it's amazing."

The A-list Actress also took to her IG page to ask fans what they are grateful for on behalf of Nollywood and what they would want improved in the next decade.

Here are responses from some of her fans:
  • aaronahalu: Not to be shady or anything but if this is the next generation of nollywood stars then our acting will really be non existent! Cause these new kids don’t have the range your generation had!
  • chinonsoarubayi (Verified): Grateful for people like you mama who blazed the trail and contributed in no small measure to the industry we enjoy now. However I wish for improvement in healthcare and welfare of everyone in the industry, what we have is a sad reflection of a society where healthcare for the masses is nothing to write home about. Considering how much value and economic impact the industry makes for Nigeria, a proper structure for pension, insurance or a health care system put in place to make sure talents aren’t dying or wasting away, after accidents on set or sicknesses that come from mosquito bites from location etc. 🙏 God bless you Queen.
  • ninamitch2: Nigerian Movies conquered Africa and Africans because of the original contents about Africa. the reality about our society... but you have too much westernized the content, and sometimes it start getting bored to watch a Nigerian Movie. Stop copying western stories, we African have our own realities and our own stories to tell. We need those African stories to be told in some ways. Thank you for your hard work and achievements!
  • metenesh: Nollywood Africa’s pride. Stay strong. you are the best. I have a feeling you are someday going to be better than Hollywood.
  • kyss.beauty: Grateful for the improvement cos I remember those days when we will know the ending of a movie right from the beginning, but now its different, and what I want now it's to make sure their movies look real, and there should be room for young talent
  • kikimofe: I watched your first movie Omotola. Now, I want an improvement in the story lines for proper understanding of each message a movie is trying to pass across to the audience. There should be a movie village where you can get a proper background for movies. There should be an opportunity for research and also there should be a total review of subtitles which must be handled by professionals especially for Yoruba movies. I want Nigeria actors to feature more in Foreign movies. May this decade be a prosperous one for the industry. Amen
  • ure_gurl: More depth to our stories, more originality.we have beautiful cultures, lets explore them thereby educating the viewers and not just entertainment. Put more effort into research. Thank you.
